The Chopard bloodline continued the family business until Paul-Andre Chopard; the last Chopard to run the business sold the Chopard Company to Karl Scheufele, a famous up and coming goldsmith and watchmaker. Paul-Andre was left with no option but to sell the company since his sons did not want to maintain and run the business. The decision to sell the family business to Karl Scheufele turned out to be good after all. The name Chopard was retained and Karl paved way to the modernization and great improvements to the Chopard watch production.
It was under the leadership of Karl Scheufele marked a new phase for the company as fine jewelry was infused in watch making. A line of watches that featured movable diamonds free floating between sapphire crystals was introduced in 1976, better known as the Happy Diamonds collection. The year 1980 saw the expansion of the brand. New stores were opened in Vienna, Hong Kong, and Geneva. A new line of sports watches were also launched. To further make the brand famous globally, Chopard partnered with Mille Miglia, a yearly Italian rally, and the Cannes International Film Festival. Chopard then produced a line of special edition watches for the Italian rally.
Time passed and more innovations were launched by the company year after year. In 2001, the Chopard L.U.C Tonneau watch was produced. This was followed by the Chopard new Golden Diamonds concept in year 2002. By 2003, the the Chopard Tourbillon watch was introduced as well the Happy Spirit Collection. Then, in 2004, the company launched its Regulateur watch and a special line of Butterfly jewelry pieces. 2005 marked two great feats – the launch of the Golden Diamonds collections and the Lunar 1 watch and the launch of the Grand Prix Chopard Decision 35 sailing regatta.
Today, Chopard enjoys much attention in the red carpet and award shows. During the festivals and events, especially for every red carpet, the Chopard Company would dress the celebrities in famous Chopard watches and jewelry pieces. Katie Holmes, Madonna, and Marion Cotillard are among the famous names known to were Chopard time pieces during red carpet events.
Aside from quality time pieces, Chopard is also know for its contribution to the advancement of medical research through its many charitable events and select foundations. Noted charity includes the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The brand makes limited edition Elton John time pieces to benefit the charity. Noted events sponsored by the Company include the An Enduring Vision, White Tie & Tiara Ball and the Elton John AIDS Foundation Oscar Party.
